As you can imagine, when you are working with people… who are working to better communicate with the dead… a lot of unexpected scenarios tend to come alive. One of the spiritual scenarios that challenge me in a class setting, are the students who are convinced their work can’t be validated because they are bringing in a past life contact. It has taken me time to formulate a response that I feel will be easily understood without offending. Past life regression is a whole different spiritual genre than evidential mediumship. If you are attending my class, you have signed up in order to fine tune a very specific spiritual faculty: Evidential Psychic Mediumship Development. So I ask parties to persevere in order to hit the mark; use the fine-tuner dial on your radio in order to find the right channel.

In every workshop, I assist the group in building a validity chart. This chart becomes somewhat like a bible to us. It consists of the several validating categories that a medium might plug retrieved information into. When we are able to go out on a limb to retrieve such information from spirit… these treasures make a bee line straight to the heart of the recipient, raising their overall vibration. It is an eloquent design; a healing takes place. Validating evidence is what gives that spirit connection it’s shiny quality. This basic chart has really come in handy, providing us with a wire frame of shielding standards. If it can’t be validated, your spiritual experience has yet to fall into the parameter of evidential mediumship.

It is true that sometimes we need to take a wait and see approach. Maybe what we have said to the recipient might be validated in the future. But what if we never get that validation? That is why I ask mediums to take a position that is most beneficial for their growth and make it their goal to retrieve the important researchable or significant pieces of the puzzle that spirit is sharing. This practice is very different from encountering a past life. This is evidential mediumship.

As a spiritualist and evidential psychic medium, I am grateful to be able to help people move through barriers of grief so they can move mountains again and find peace. It is a beautiful thing when it happens the first time I try. But if it doesn’t, I immerse myself in the power of spirit even deeper and aim higher for better results. We don’t always get the chance, but sometimes a simple “do over” is necessary to restore your faith that you can talk to people on the other side… that your recipient knows.

PREPARING IS SELF PRESERVING… TAKE TIME!

In January, I went and did a reading for a friend. We are both mediums. The reading went well and afterwards we were sitting and talking when she spoke of a hesitation she was experiencing before working. Instead of being consumed with an enthusiasm to show off her talent and shine… that confident glow had to share the same space with that voice shouting, “I am not ready yet!” You don’t have to be a medium to relate to this.

The other evening I hosted a student medium circle at Circle of Love Spiritualist Community. The affair turned out great! However, during the back stage, chit-chat the following Sunday, It came out that many of us, including me (due to a flu), felt like we could have taken more time out for spiritual preparation.

We mediums walk between two world. Not all the time does it feel like it because given the fact that we are in the world, we will always be called, pulled and seduced by secular aspects of the world. I have told many, “there are times when I feel about as psychic as a rock.” It is easy to forget that we have to nurture our spiritual bodies and minds too. Never underestimate how much spiritual juice it takes to build strong bridges of communication between heaven and earth. You have to set aside appropriate time to sit in the power in order to fuel your mission or to accomplish proper spiritual interfacing. If you were going to take a road trip, wouldn’t it be foolish to just get in your car and drive without checking your fluids, tires, fuel, etc…?

PASSIONATE ABOUT TEACHING… YET FOREVER A STUDENT!

I am very passionate about teaching, but I will forever be a student. I do my best to challenge my mediumship faculties. However, no matter how hard I work, I am reminded of just how important it is to review the basics. What do you do when in the middle of giving a reading, the silence is awkward and you want to fill it with fluff? Maybe you are demonstrating at a spiritualist community or some other public venue, but instead of going out on a limb with spirit to retrieve valid info of interest, you play it safe. How much of THAT are you going to tolerate?

Last month I invited a couple of friends to a circle I hosted at Circle of Love Spiritualist Community. Mr. D. is quite a medium himself and he has been working with his wife Mrs. D. to help her unfold. I thought their participation in a modern day séance would be good for their development… who knows , maybe I might benefit too. Needless to say, the evening was quite eventful. Eventually I tuned into Mrs. D. , working as direct as I could and brought through her late husband: first I described him, then I told her what I heard him say.

The next morning, Mrs. D. , having sat in the silence like she is growing accustomed to, approached me with a little bit of feedback from the spirit of her late husband. He had told her, “those were my words, but I don’t know the person she was describing.” Now this is the kind of feedback I needed. The spirit eventually suggested, upon request, that I needed to take time to make sure that I match up the correct person to the correct voice. It reminded me of a scrambled word game I use to play as a child. The spirit told me to just ask and that I would always know him by the image of his old motorcycle. Imagine that!

Bringing me to my final point, I realized that this is a weak spot that could be strengthened… quickly. Not only could I implement what the spirit told me to do, but I did a little research, dived head first into literary sources for some more guidance and maybe some practical exercises. The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Communicating with Spirits, written by Rita S. Berkowitz and Deborah S. Romaine, was a great place to start my research. This is a highly recommended reading in my Beginning Mediumship Development class. Page 143, “Learning to Focus,” had some great input and reacquainted me with the additional guidance/exercises I needed to elevate the quality of the spirit communications I make. When the proper ground work is there, revisiting the basics maybe all you need. The other highly recommended reading is, A Guide to The Understanding And Practice of Spiritual Healing, by Harry Edwards.

No matter how much time you put into working as a medium, thank goodness you will never be able to out distance the learning curve. Sometimes our experiences will lead us right back to the basics for a refresher or tune-up.

Psychic Mediums Stand Up!!! To Fine Tune Their Demonstration Styles

I want to first start by thanking Circle of Love Spiritualist Community in Auburn, California for embracing my mediumship development workshops. The third workshop of the year has ceased for the season and we will resume February 3^rd, 2013. This will be a fund raiser for the church. But the last session of the last workshop consisted of questions, answers/feedback and reflection. It is hard to believe that some of the student base there, have been diligently working to develop their mediumship for close to 2 years with me. Some for longer. Many of them are at that point where they can look back and see noticeable improvement! They are beginning to really love their new set of psychic medium skills and the challenges that demonstration work can bring. It has been a pleasure working with every person there. Thanks for standing up and stepping up! So I pulled together a basic list of important things to remember.

Some Basic points to remember:

Do a good meditation at home. We mediums consciously walk between two worlds: the physical and the spirit. In order for communication between the two worlds to function well, we need to feed our spirit bodies and spirit minds. We need to take proper time out for our own spiritual sustenance. Whether you know it as “sitting in the power” as my Canadian mentors refer to it as, or “moving into the silence” as my colleague refers to it as, it is a must… and you can’t always count on having the proper time to do that once you leave home.

Dress appropriate. Not only does this raise one’s confidence but psychic mediums are the ambassadors for spirit. We represent them and this might be the only opportunity spirit has to reach out and touch their loved one. So one way we can assist the palatability of that contact is dress like we care. Be practical with your fashion choices. 3” inch heels could be the wrong choice if you are going to have to stand for long periods or if the terrain is technically difficult. Short skirts could work against you if you have to sit on a raised platform. It is important how we dress while we represent our craft and spirit.
Don’t let fear take over your demonstration. Find a way to relax. Essentially, demonstrating your psychic medium skills can be seen as a form of public speaking. Become acquainted with the perfect stride for your delivery. When griped by fear, you could either stall or, my favorite, need to slow down so that you don’t throw the demonstration due to an adrenaline surge. In both situations, it will be difficult to reach those unique avenues of information that really make a demonstration “glow” with validity. So admitting that you are still learning, could help level everyone’s expectations and take the heat off a bit. Then move forward and blow them away!
Lean more toward bringing in validity first then bring through the message. If you are like me, your still a green medium who’s “wet behind the ears.” Validity is sublime for mediums who are just cutting their teeth. That’s when we are doing our job: demonstrating the continuity of life. Of course, bringing in validity is scary! That’s when you might run into a few NO! And that can be difficult to handle when you are standing in front of people. However, once you lock down the WHO, your recipient is ready for the message to follow. In my workshops, I help the students put together a validity chart.
Work to keep your demonstrations true and organic! Don’t fall for the art of pulling in a spirit contact from an earlier prep-meditation. Try not to read your audience or congregate ahead of time. Remember that you are working to give a current demonstration not a reciting of a previous experience. The information coming through should be new news to you too.
